Hypaipa (AD 193-211) AE 34 - Septimius Severus

Septimius Severus, 193-211 AD. AE34 (20.20g, 6h), struck ca 195-198 AD. AV KAI Λ CЄΠ - CЄOVHPOC ΠЄP, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / YΠ - A - I - ΠHNΩN, emperor galloping right, spearing fallen eastern enemy. Green-brown patina. VF. Ex Gorny & Mosch Auc. 134 (2004), lot 1974, and Lanz 56 (1991), lot 556.

The issue is probably related to the military campaigns against the Parthians, conducted between 195-198 AD. After returning from the East, the emperor decided to permanently encamp the second of three Parthian legions near Rome in the Castra Albana (Albano Laziale).
