Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #9582

Thyateira (AD 161-169) AE 39 - Lucius Verus

Lucius Verus, 161-169 AD. AE39 (27.67g, 12h). Bareheaded and cuirassed bust left; countermark’s: laureate head right (x2) / Demeter standing right, holding grain ears and torch, facing Zeus Lydios standing left, holding eagle and scepter; prow to left of Zeus’ feet. Good Fine, brown patina. Ex Frederick Coll.

Distinguishing some of the laureate head countermarks from one another is sometimes nearly impossible. Howgego records 93 on coins from Thyateira, but it looks more like 94 which is recorded on coins from Tralles.
