Bithynion-Klaudiopolis (AD 81-96) AE 22 - Domitian

Domitian, 81-96 AD. Half Assarion(?) (7.64g, 22mm, 6h). Laureate head right / Serpent entwined around branch. Good VF, beautiful green patina. Extremely rare. Three of the known specimens of this type are in public collections – two in the Ashmolean; the RG specimen in Athens. The fourth cited specimen, which appeared in a 1928 Cahn sale had no weight given, and was not illustrated.
