Magnesia ad Sipylos (AD 238-244) AE 38 - Gordian III

Gordian III, 238-244 AD. AE38 (27.04g, 6h). Aurelius Theodotos B, strategus. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; countermark: head of Tyche right; cornucopia to right; all within circular incuse / Cybele, holding reins and resting arm on tympanum, seated left on cart driven by pair of lions. Good VF, dark green patina with areas of red, tiny flan split, minor smoothing in fields. Very rare and the only one not in a public collection. Group CEM; ex M&M Numismatics I (12/1997), lot 200.
