Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #6950

Priapos (BC 350-300) AE 19

ca 4th century BC. AE19 (5.17g). Laureate head of Apollo right / Π-Ρ/Ι-Α, lighted altar, crayfish below. VF, dark green patina. Apparently unpublished.

The reverse type is unkown at Priapos, however, it closely resembles the great altar of Parium present on the reverse of coins that city (cf., e.g., BMC Mysia pg. 97, 40). Thus, it is possible that this coin commemorates an alliance between the two cities.
