Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #8080

Kyzikos (BC 550-510) Obol

ca 600-550 BC. AR Obol (0.82g, 9mm). Head of tunny right / Incuse square punch. Near EF, toned. Extremely rare. Ex Aufhäuser 8 (10/1991), lot 96.

This silver issue parallels the earliest series of Electrum from Kyzikos, which also featured full or partial tunnies as the obverse type. These silver pieces strongly suggest that the dating of this coinage is closer to middle of the 6th century.
