Unpublished in the major references.
The magistrate Hermokrates is known for Apollonis through several coins of Lucius Verus. The portrait and titles suggest a date late in Aurelius' service as Caesar or immediately after he succeeded Antoninus Pius in 161 AD. The second magistrate, Aeschrion, is known from one other coin, also of Lucius Verus, from Apollonia, which has been identified as Apollonia Salbace in Caria, Mionnet III pg. 332, 173). It is tempting to see them as the same person. But Apollonis in Lydia and Apollonia Salbace are some distance apart, and it is difficult to see the connection. However, there are a number of other Apollonias in Asia Minor, and one of them, Apollonia on the Caicus in Mysia, is only some 20 miles from Apollonis. Perhaps the two close neighbors shared more than a similarity in names, and there was a civic connection.

Lydia Uncertain (BC 4th cent) AE 121060 viewsSardeis? 4th century BC. AE12 (1.5 g, 12h). Head of Dionysios left, wearing ivy wreath / Kantharos; F and S (in Lydian) flanking. Good VF, brown patina. Very rare. Ex Gorny & Mosch 203 (3/2012), lot 197 (Naxos).
In previous sales, this issue has been attributed to either Cycladic Naxos or Syros. While both cities struck coins with same types, all of these cities’ bronzes consistently bear the first two letters of their respective ethnic flanking the base of the kantharos. On this issue, these Greek letters have been replaced by two Lydian letters, allowing its correct attribution to a mint in Lydia. Sardeis is a possibility, as it’s spelling in Lydian was Sfard.

AVT K M AVP CEV ALEXANDPOC, laureate head right / EPI CTP AVP KWCKELI OV TAM POPOCELHN, EITWN across field, Tyche standing left, modius on head, holding patera in right hand, cornucopiae in left. Magistrate not recorded in Münsterberg. VF, matte dark green patina, surfaces slightly rough. A unique and apparently unpublished medallic bronze. Drewry Coll.; ex Burstein Coll., Peus 366 (10/2000), lot 606.
The only bronze of Severus Alexander for Pordoselene, and the only medallic sized coin for the island. The edge of the coin has been lightly tapped to create a raised rim; sestertii with this edge effect are sometimes referred to as "proto-contorniates." This coin was probably a presentation piece. mounted in a phalera for display. In the Peus catalogue it is described as lead, but in actuality is a poor quality bronze alloy.
