Keramos (AD 138-161) AE - Antoninus Pius538 viewsAntoninus Pius, 138-161 AD. AE (23.89g). AUTOK KAIS ANTWNEINON SEB[...], draped laureate bust left / KERANIH AILI QEMISTO[...], archaic God with spear and double-axe standing right, lion sitting behind. Very rare. Brown patina, VF.

The reverse type, which is also on a coinage of Commodus (BMC 8), represents an ancient cult figure, probably with the same attributes as Zeus Labraundos, which itself followed the pattern of Greek Kouros in its archaic form.
