Larisa (BC 400-300) Triobol928 viewsca early 4th century BC. AR Triobol (1.97g). Head of nymph right / ΛΑΡΙΣΑΙ, amphora, within incuse square. Toned VF, heavy encrustation. Unpublished, probably unique.

Until recently, the coins of Larisa Troas were believed to be from Larisa Phrikonis in Aiolis. Silver coins from this city are extremely rare, with only four published specimens, all of which are diobols (Winterthur 2767; Traite' II 2064; Imhoof-Blumer, "Antike Griechishe Muenzen," SNR 19 (1913), 87; and Wroth, "Greek Coins acquired by the British Museum in 1901," NumChron 1902, 26). Thus, this apparently unique specimen is the largest silver coin known for Larisa.
