Commodus, as Caesar, 166-177 AD. AE33 (20.72g). Claudius Nikomedes, magistrate. M AVP KAI CAP KOMODO/C, bare-headed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / ΕΠΙ CΤΠΑ Κ ΝΙΚΟ ΜΗΔΟΥC Β ΝΕΟΚΟΡΩΝ ΠΕΡΓΑΜΗΝΩΝ, Hygieia with serpent and patera and Asclepius with serpent staff standing facing each other, small Telesphorus between them. EF, dark green patina, fields smoothed. The work of a master engraver at Pergamum, whose signature seems to be the dropped C in the obverse legend. See Kraft pl. 87-89 for other dies by this artist.
