Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #3541

(BC 480) Amartite - Stater

Amartite, Dynast, ca 480 BC. AR Stater (10.63g, 3h). Crab / "AMIARTITA" in Lycian, crab; all within incuse square. Good VF, toned, die break in obverse field. Extremely rare, the second known. Falghera noted that this issue belongs to a group that bridges the anepigraphic and epigraphic period, which would place it circa 480 BC. Additionally, the name "EME" on Falghera 57, which shares the same obverse die as both Amartite coins, may actually be a contracted form of the name of this same dynast.
