Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #2534

(BC 480-440) Kuprilli - Stater

Kuprilli, Dynast, ca 480-440 BC. AR Stater (9.78g). Two leaping dolphins; triskeles above and below, monogram / K-O, triskeles; lotus flower in corner, all in dotted incuse square. Good VF. Unpublished and apparently unique! Ex Busso Peus Auk. 360 (4/1999), lot 35; CNG Auc. 42 (5/1997), lot 524. The dolphins types are undoubtedly inspired by the 6th century BC staters attributed to the island of Karpathos off the coast of Caria.
