Commodus, 177-192 AD. AE42 - Medallion (33.47g, 6h). Apelles II Menemachou, strategos. Struck circa 180-182 AD. ΑVΤΟ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑVΡΗ ΚΟΜΟΔΟС, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / [ΕΠΙ СΤΡ ΑΠΕΛΛΟVС Β ΜΕΝΕΜΑΧΟV ΜVΤΙΛΗΝΑΙΩΝ], Commodus, [holding palm frond], in quadriga left, [led by soldier to left holding signum]; in background above, trophy on base with two captives. Good Fine, dark green patina. Portrait defaced as an act of damnatio. Very rare, with RPC citing just six examples.
