Ancient Greek and Roman coins from Asia Minor

Coin ID #11437

Hieropolis-Kastabala (AD 217-218) AE 23 - Diadumenian

Diadumenian, as Caesar, 217-218 AD. AE23 (11.48g, 12h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Prize-crown between two lighted torches. VF, green patina, a few cleaning marks. Ex Krizan Coll.; CNG 54 (6/2000), lot 1126.

A close comparison of the dies show that they are the same that were used to strike the Paris specimen. However, the spelling of Antoninus on that coin is ANTONINOC whereas here it is ANTΩNINOC. The Paris specimen appears to have been very carefully tooled.
