Prostanna (AD 222-235) AE 35 - Severus Alexander

Severus Alexander, 222-235 AD. AE35 / Medallion (24.86g, 12h). AYT•K•M•A•Y•CЄ AΛЄΞANΔPOC•CЄ•, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / ΠPOCTANNЄΩN – ΘЄMIC, group of three athletes: the one in the middle drawing lot from an urn; the two others standing left and right, looking at their lots; above, agonistic urn. Of the highest rarity, apparently the second and by far the best example known. Minor smoothing, gVF.

In Themian games, winners were awarded cash money or precious objects rather than the more common wreaths or olive oil.
