Samos (BC 408-380) Tetradrachm

ca 408/4-385/0 BC. AR Tetradrachm (14.83g, 7h). Marsyas, magistrate. Facing lion's scalp / Forepart of bull right; branch behind, MAPΣYAΣ above, SA below nose, bee below. Good VF, attractively toned, well-centered. Extremely rare, one of only two coins known from this magistrate (both from the Pixodarus hoard). Ex Lanz 46 (1998), lot 278; Antiqua FPL IX (undated [2000]), no. 49; Pixodarus Hoard (CH 9, 421).
