Pergamon (AD 253-260) AE - Valerian I

Valerian I, 253-260 AD. AE Medallion (39.76g). Strategos Aurelius Damas. Laureate and draped bust right/ table with wreath and price urns; below, two money bags; in between IA. Rare. Brown patina. Very fine.

Aurelius Damas was not only Strategos, but also Asiarch. The reverse shows that in Pergamon, as in 37 other mints, there were Olympic or Isolympic games organized by the city, that were related by regulations and prices to win to the Olympic games.
